Program Notes:

Dawn of the First Day was written for my sister, to commemorate her first year as a band director. Even though my goal was to write for a beginner band, I did not want the music to sound simplistic. The percussion tackles this issue by performing an infectious groove that sets the tone for the piece. Besides the powerful melody and groove at the beginning and end of the piece, the middle brings forth a segment that offers a softer, more lyrical quality.
