Program Notes:

The title is a reference to Aurora, the Roman goddess of the dawn (also known as Eos in Greek mythology) who flies across the sky each morning, heralding the start of the new day. Aurora is referred to in Homer's Iliad:

Now Dawn the saffron-robed arose from the streams of Oceanus to bring light to immortals and to mortal men, and Thetis came to the ships bearing gifts from the god. (19.1)
