Program Notes:

This is the third “junior” concerto written for the senior ensemble at MCI. With only four grade 12 students enrolled in the program for the year, it was decided that the piece would feature all four. Using the “concerto grosso” concept, the piece was constructed in a rondo form with an ongoing back-and-forth between the band and the solo quartet. The title is comprised of the first two letters of the soloists’ names. There is no programmatic intent in the music, but students or audience members could be tempted to “invent” a meaning to the word. The Senior Concert Band at the time of the composition had no low brass with the exception of two trombones, and no French horns. As a result, these parts are not original to the composition.
