Program Notes:

Kingsmere Overture is an exciting and rhythmic piece by talented composer Ryan Meeboer. This work is divided into 3 main sections depicting the development of a career as a music educator: "The Establishment", "The Departure" and "The Triumph".

(Eighth Note Publications)

The title, Kingsmere Overture, is derived from the names of two teaching colleagues of mine, Marsha King and Laurie Moore, who encouraged me to begin writing more complex pieces. The three sections of the piece represent the development of their careers since I first met them in 2001. "The Establishment" shows their success as elementary school teachers and the strong music programs they established for the school in which they taught. "The Departure" is a slower, lyrical section representing the choice made by my colleagues to leave their elementary placements to seek out new opportunities as secondary music educators. The final section, "The Triumph", is a reflection of the continued success of these two teachers as secondary music educators.
