Program Notes:

The race is on! Lightspeed is a high-velocity piece built almost entirely on fast-moving staccato eighth notes. The inspiration for this composition came from pointillism – a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied to form an image, very much like pixels on a computer screen. These dashes of light give this work a luminescent energy. The intention behind this piece is to create an energetic ride that is fun for the musicians to play and exciting for the audience to listen to.
