Program Notes:

Postcard from Amsterdam was inspired by a bicycle ride around historic Amsterdam on a beautiful, sunny day. The city is unique because of its many lovely canals, its impressive seventeenth-century architecture and over 1,500 bridges. A bike is a great way to see it all and bicycle bells are part of the soundscape of the city. This composition features bicycle bells and a “pedaling” rhythm throughout – conjuring up images of cycling up and down the old canals, through parks filled with tulips, and around the many colourful neighbourhoods and squares. The feeling of the music should be light and lively!
