Program Notes:

"Rider of the Mountain" points to a hero rising from the mist in an uptempo theme led by percussion. This valiant section is contrasted by a lyrical theme that will give students experience with multiple styles and articulations. Throughout the piece, your students will be able to achieve a dramatic effect with an intense percussive style. Like many television themes, the melody of this work will stick with you and your students long after you have performed it!

One can envision themselves on a mountain pass or on rolling hills atop a beautiful stallion. The piece begins early in the morning, with the morning dew settling, and a light fog covering the mountain tops. Soon, the day's ride beings. With each adventure, the cool wind blows against their face and through their clothes.
