Program Notes:
Bill Hogarth Secondary School welcomed its first group of students in September of 2017. This piece was written for the school’s second year, especially for the founding musicians of the school’s music program. The school’s mascot is the Hornet. The central musical motif was drawn from the initials of the school, using the German method of note naming: B-H-S-S becomes B♭ – B – E♭ – E♭. This motif appears as the opening notes of the main fanfare melody, as the starting point of the march’s trio, and in modified versions throughout the other march melodies.
