Program Notes:

In 1970 I purchased a small soapstone carving of an Inuit woman cleaning a fish, carved by Annie. This artifact has stood on the shelves over my desk ever since, regardless of where I lived. This essay consists of two original melodies in Inuit style, each played twice, introduced and separated by a short ritornello.

[Editor's note: It is unclear what the composer means by "Inuit style"; such claims are often problematic.]
