Program Notes:

A continuum is a sequence or progression of elements. This music was inspired by such diverse elements as modern loop-based music, the Bartók string quartets, the blues and impressionism. Continuum is built around various musical building blocks that are constantly evolving and transforming – each new statement being an extension of the one before it. In the beginning, these elements occur on top of a two bar loop that moves throughout the ensemble – sometimes stated as a whole and sometimes split up between different instruments. The rhythmic opening section builds and gives way to an exotic, bluesy middle section, leading into a brass quartet with an optional feature for either the flügelhorn or cornet. Then comes a percussive, rhythmic build to the end.
