Program Notes:
Driven To… (2013) focusses on the syncopation that draws the audience to the downbeat and the feeling of release. In the opening section, the bombastic low brass and wind parts are complimented by the percussion section setting the pace for the melody in the upper winds. The character of the band changes in in the slower middle section with the emphasis on the soundscape that is created by the middle and low woodwinds. The syncopation returns on the D. S. and the coda. The independence of parts makes sure that every instrument plays an important role in the musical tapestry.
