Program Notes:

First Cut is a cut time march, suitable for a first band experience in this style. Although it may be necessary to start slowly, the goal is to play the piece with a two beats per measure feeling, at march tempo. The piece includes a key change from Concert B♭ to Concert E♭. The final chorus has an optional obligato that can be played by any instrument. It moves quickly but should lie under the fingers well for young players. A soloist or small group may be used on the obligato.
