Program Notes:
Pisew Falls was inspired by the very impressive falls 700 kilometers north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. These falls, isolated in the boreal forest, are awe inspiring anytime of the year in both sights and sounds. Pisew, the Cree word for lynx, is used to relate the distant sounds of the falls to that of a hissing lynx. This can be heard right from the beginning of Pisew Falls with the brushes used on the snare head. Throughout Pisew Falls, you will hear sounds that both emulate the wildlife sounds that surround and inhabit the area, as well as the journey of someone who is encountering the falls and its majesty for the first time.
