Program Notes:

A starburst is a pattern of lines radiating from a central source. The idea of something bursting forth is the foundation of this composition. Written as a celebratory piece, Starburst is a rousing overture that explodes with energy and effervescence. The composer’s intention with this piece was to create a concert opener full of joy and excitement for all members of the band as well as the audience. Commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band in honour of the 20th anniversary of Douglas Macaulay as music director, Starburst is a salute to the energy and inspiration of this fine musician.
